Pat Winkel Selected 9th Round to Minnesota Twins

DENVER - UConn catcher Pat Winkel was selected in the ninth round of the 2021 MLB Draft to the Minnesota Twins.
Winkel joins former teammate Anthony Prato (7th Round, 2019) in the Twins organization.Â
Winkel was an ABCA First Team All-Region performer this season. THe  All-BIG EAST Second Team member hit .284 with 14 doubles, 11 home runs, 42 RBIs, 38 runs scored and threw out 13 base runners. He led the team with three-multi-homer games and contributed 17 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI games.
Winkel becomes the third-straight UConn catcher to be taken in the MLB Draft. Max McDowell (2013-15) was picked by the Brewers in the 2015 MLB Draft and Zac Susi (2016-18) was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates.Â
Overall, the Orange, Conn. native is the seventh catcher drafted under former UConn catcher and head coach Jim Penders.Â
