Fedko, Wurster & Marrero Picked on Day 3 MLB Draft

DENVER - Three Huskies were selected on day three of the 2021 MLB Draft with Kyler Fedko (12th Round, Twins), Caleb Wurster (15th Round, Marlins) and Andrew Marrero (18th Round, Cardinals) all picked on Tuesday afternoon.
UConn finished the 2021 MLB Draft with five players selected, the most in the first 20 rounds of the draft since having six taken in the 2011 MLB Draft.
The Huskies also had committed Huskies, Frank Mozzicato (1st Round, Royals) and Owen Kellington (4th Round, Pirates) were also taken in the draft.Â
Fedko had one of the top seasons in UConn history and with it earned numerous awards including NCBWA District 2 Player of the Year and All-American status with Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, ABCA and NCBWA. BIG EAST Player of the Year, First Team All-BIG EAST and BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player. The UConn outfielder the BIG EAST Conference and was 15th in the country with a .398 batting average, the highest for a Husky since Mike Scott hit .413 in 2001. He ranked 35th in the nation with 1.50 hits per game. The third year sophomore led the BIG EAST in runs scored (57), hits (78), on-base percentage (.483), total bases (132). He added 14 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 53 RBIs, 28 walks, stole seven bases and had team-high 24 multi-hit games and added 16 multi-RBI games.
The Gibsonia, Pa. native finishes his UConn career with a .335 average with 145 hits, including 29 doubles five triples and 19 homers with 89 RBIs and 96 runs scored in 119 games.
Wurster was a First Team All-Big East closer in 2021 and led the BIG EAST Conference with nine saves on the year. The left-hander appeared in 25 games out of the UConn pen, going 4-1 with a 2.41 ERA. The Coventry, R.I. native pitched 41.0 innings, recorded 52 strikeouts and held opponents to a .207 average against. His 67 appearances ranks 10th in program history. His 12 saves makes him the 10th Husky to record double-digit saves in his UConn career. The left-hander earned ABCA Northeast Region Second Team accolades.
Marrero closes his UConn career with 22 appearances out of the bullpen including 18 appearances in 2021. In 26.0 career innings, the New Haven, Conn. native struck out 34 batters.Â

- With the draft completed, the Huskies have now had 57 players selected on 61 occasions under head coach Jim Penders.Â
- The five selections in the 20 rounds is the second most in program history (2011, 6).
