STORRS, Conn. – Sophomore Jada Konte and freshman Abbey Jones each scored to lead the UConn women's soccer team (2-0-0) past La Salle (0-2-0), 2-1, Thursday evening at Morrone Stadium.
"I thought we handled the ball much better this game," head coach Margaret Rodriguez said. "I thought we were creating a lot of opportunities, we just needed to tuck a couple more of them away. Our depth was phenomenal today. I think that was the strength of our team today. We were able to rotate a lot of players in and the level of play didn't drop."
Konte notched her second goal of the season at 20:23, scoring off a crossbody left-footed shot to the opposite corner of the net.
Jones posted the first goal of her UConn career at 46:56, taking a pass from Cara Jordan on a breakaway and scoring to the top left corner.
La Salle got a goal back at 85:10, but the Huskies defense held on to keep the advantage.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Mahoney and MaryKate Ward split time in goal.
UConn led 17-5 in shots and 5-3 in corners.
The Huskies are back in action at Boston College (3-0-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
