Huskies Ready for Dog Pound Challenge

STORRS, Conn. – Hosting the sixth-annual Dog Pound Challenge, the UConn volleyball team will play a trio of matches as part of a six-game tournament Friday through Saturday at Gampel Pavilion.
UConn will start the weekend against Bryant on Friday, then return for contests against NJIT and Yale on Saturday.
All matches of the UConn Challenge will stream through FloSports. Admission to the matches is free and masks are required indoors.
As an annual tradition, Sigma Alpha is partnering with the volleyball team as part of the UConn Dog Pound Challenge. The Huskies (5-4) are coming off a 2-1 effort at the Dartmouth Invitational last weekend. Graduate student McKayla Wuensch was named to the Dartmouth Invitational All-Tournament and collected Big East Honor Roll honors after averaging 10.3 assists per set over the weekend. She logged her best performance of the tournament vs. Dartmouth, notching 39 assists and 19 digs.
Senior Caylee Parker is six kills away from earning her 1,000th career kill. Parker is on pace to reach the mark Friday and would become the 14th Husky in program history to reach the milestone.
SCOUTING BRYANT
The Bulldogs have dropped their last three matches to slip to 5-6 on the season. As a team, Bryant leads the Northeast Conference in both kills (13.1) and assists (11.9) per set. Riley James leads the attack with 2.54 kills per set, while Alyssa Wright ranks second in the conference in hitting percentage (.305) and is averaging a team-high 1.13 blocks per set.
SCOUTING NJIT
NJIT enters the weekend on an eight-game skid and stands at 1-8 overall. The Highlanders have been swept in seven-of-nine matches are coming off a 3-2 defeat at Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday. Juliana Impaglia leads NJIT in attacking percentage (.375) and assists per set (6.29).
SCOUTING YALE
Yale is coming off a 3-0 outing at the Stony Brook Invitational to improve to 5-1 overall. Gigi Barr captured tournament MVP honors after averaging a .434 hitting percentage and 2.4 kills per set. Bonnie Bostic and Mila Yarich were also named to the all-tournament team.
UConn will remain at home next weekend as it opens up Big East play against Seton Hall on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
