Huskies Open Fall Season in Quinnipiac Invite this Weekend

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team will get the 2021 fall season underway this weekend taking part in the Quinnipiac Invitational. The event will be blind dual match format with the Huskies competing against the Bobcats, Army West Point and Fairfield with all of the matches being held in Storrs at the UConn Tennis Courts.
This weekend's opening matches will be the first of five invitationals on the UConn schedule this fall as well as a return dual match with Quinnipiac at home on October 13. The Huskies will host the UConn Invitational next weekend before taking part in the ITA Regional Championship at Army at the end of September. UConn will also take part in the Navy Invitational and the Brown Invitational in October to close out the fall slate.
The Huskies are led by senior Julieanne Bou (Baymon, Puerto Rico) who moved into the No. 1 singles spot last season and played her way to a spot on the All-BIG EAST second team. She posted a 7-5 singles record and also played at No. 1 doubles where she finished with a 11-1 record for the season, helping the team to a 29-9 doubles record (.763) during the shortenned spring season.
Bout teamed with sophomore Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany) in doubles and the duo ran off 11-straight wins during the season, including a 3-0 mark against BIG EAST opponents. Together, they earned the program's first-ever ITA national ranking, finishing the year No. 87 in the rankings. Hoppe played No. 2 singles as a freshman and finished at 6-6 on the season.
Junior Caroline Cook (Naples, Fla.) split time at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots and finished the spring with a 6-4 singles record. In doubles, she was second on the team with 10-2 record and teamed with freshman Aleksandra Karamyshev (Ashton, Md.) playing at the No. 3 spot for most of the season. The duo ended the season on a 10-match winning streak and were 3-0 against BIG EAST competition. Karamyshev finished 6-3 in singles play at No. 5 and No. 6.
Juniors Denise Lai (Setauket, N.Y.) and Doga Selen Takunyaci (Istanbul, Turkey) were solid in the middle of the UConn lineup and also teamed in doubles to post a an 8-4 record together at No. 2. Takunyaci was 8-4 in singles play while Lai played to a 6-7 record.
The Huskies lineup is rounded out by senior Luciana Rabines (Barcelona, Spain), junior Kyra Foster (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who missed all of last season with an injury, and freshman Isabel Petri Bere (Sweden).
