UCONN GOLFERS FINISH 5TH AT HAWKS INVITATIONAL

SOUTH KENT, Conn. – The UConn men's golf team captured its second straight Top 5 finish in as many outings in the young 2021-22 season and sophomore Caleb Manuel notched his second consecutive Top 10 finish as the Huskies completed play in the Hartford Hawks Invitational on Tuesday.
Led by Manuel, the Huskies finished fifth in the large 18-team field at the event, played at the par 72 Bull's Bridge Golf Club. It marked UConn's eighth Top 5 finish in its last 12 events. The Huskies shot an aggregate 10-over, 288-300-286=874. UCF (829), which placed three players in the top three positions on the leaderboard, won the tournament for the third straight year.
Manuel (Topsham, Me.) shot a 4-under, 69-69-74=212, good enough to tie for ninth place in the 114-player field, the fifth Top 10 and eighth Top 20 finish of his career. The result also upped Manuel's career par-or-better rounds to 15 and his career sub-70 rounds to seven.
UConn sophomore Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) recorded his second straight Top 20 finish of the new season with an even-par, 70-74-72=216, good enough to tie for 17th place. Dallahan now has five career rounds of par-or-better and four Top 20 finishes.
Also competing for the Huskies, senior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) finished in a tie for 37th place with a 7-over, 73-81-69=223, his 11th career sub-70 round and his 28th career round of par-or-better. Senior Nick Hampoian (North Reading, Mass.) also tied for 37th with his 7-over, 76-76-71=223, which included his fourth career par-or-better round. Sophomore Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) rounded out the Huskies' lineup with a 23-over, 78-82-79=239.
Two UConn freshman gained experience at the Hawks Invitational by playing as individuals. Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) nearly had his first Top 20 finish, firing a 4-over, 73-71-76=220, which tied for 24th place. Vikram Konanki (Newton, Mass.), in his first college competition, tied for 92nd with a 22-over, 83-84-71=238.
UConn will next return to competition as the host school of the UConn Invitational, scheduled for Oct. 3, 4 and 5 at GreatHorse in Hampden, Mass.
