Julianne Bou Leads Huskies at UConn Invite

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's tennis team wrapped up another weekend on their home courts facing Binghamton, LIU and Rhode Island in the UConn Invitational. The teams competed in a blind dual match format over the three days.
"We had another solid weekend of matches against some very good opponents," commented Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "The team went 14-11 overall in singles and doubles. Julieanne Bou had another outstanding weekend, going undefeated at #1 singles and doubles. The rest of the team had some great results as well, and really worked together as a team with their support and camaraderie of each other."
UConn senior Julianne Bou (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) was 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles play this weekend. Bou earned singles wins over Binghamton's Lara Kaplan, 6-1, 6-4 and then LIU's Valenina Dancenco, coming back from dropping the first set, 7-6 (3), to win 6-4, 10-8. On Sunday, she beat URI's Nadia Rajan, 7-6 and 6-2.
In doubles, she teamed with sophomore Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany) to win over LIU's Dancenco and Sofiya Kuzina, 6-0, and URI's Rajan and Erin Chratian, 6-3. Hoppe got a pair of singles wins, winning 6-4, 6-3 over Kyra Bergmann of Binghamton. On Sunday, she won 6-2, 6-4 over Chratian of URI.
Junior Denise Lai (Setauket, N.Y.) won twice in singles, beating Brielle DeRobert from Binghamton, 6-2, 6-1 and URI's Gracie Campanella, 6-4, 6-1.
The Huskies will next be in action this coming weekend at the ITA Regional Championship at Army.
