STORRS, Conn. - UConn senior Taylor Woods (Marlboro, Md.) was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Divisio I National Athlete of the Week after her season opening performance at the Harvard Beantown Challenge last weekend.
Woods, who is the defending BIG EAST Outdoor Champion in the long jump, got her season off to a great start last weekend, winning the long jump with a leap of 6.26m (20-6½). That moved Woods up to No. 2 on the Descending Order List and was just 7cm shy of an indoor PR set in February of last year.
This is the first time in program history that a male or female athlete from UConn has been named National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season.
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday afternoon at the URI Invitational.
