STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team beat the Maine at Fort Kent Bengals, 2-1 Wednesday afternoon at Morrone Stadium. Sophomore forward, Okem Chime, scored two goals for the Huskies in the second half.
The Bengals stunned the Huskies in the 5th minute scoring the opening goal off a free kick to take an early lead. The Bengals would keep their one goal lead into the half as the Huskies struggled to connect their midfield play into the offensive third.
UConn came out strong from the halftime break creating more chances on goal. In the 52nd minute, Owen Guglielmino, played a ball over the top of the defense to freshman forward, Joey Saputo, who had a one on one chance with the Bengals goalkeeper but was denied his first goal as a Husky.
The Huskies finally found a breakthrough in the 64th minute as Chime scored his first goal of the season to get the Huskies on the board. Freshman Pierce Bateson did well to beat multiple defenders off the left flank and delivered a great pass to an open Chime, who finished his shot in the bottom corner.
UConn took the lead for good in the 79th minute as once again, Chime was there to find the back of the net. The Huskies won a corner that was taken quickly by freshman Ben Dukes, who swung in a cross, and Chime was there to flick a header past the goalkeeper. Chime was UConn's leading goal scorer last season with four goals.
