UConn Falls to Marquette

Storrs, Conn. - The women's volleyball team fell to Marquette in three sets Sunday afternoon.Â
UConn would keep a steady pace to begin the first set. Huskies tied it at 5-5 early in the first from a big kill by Kennadie Jake-Turner. Then, UConn would roll on to add back-to-back blocks. After UConn's timeout being down by two at 18-16, Marquette would continue to hold off the Huskies and would round out the first set with a score of 25-21. Â
Both teams would create open opportunities in the second set and the assists would come in bunches. The Golden Eagles' setter, Yadhira Anchante, finished the set with eight assists out of a total of 36 assists, 11 digs, and two saves in the game. Meanwhile for UConn, Madi Whitmire also finished the set with eight assists as her line totaled 22 assists, 11 digs, and three blocks in the game. However, Marquette would slip away from UConn as it would take the second set 25-17. Â
Although the Huskies would start out slow being down 3-0 in the third set, they would later go on a 4-0 scoring run to take the lead at 13-11. Then, Marquette would string a few plays together and take the lead back to be up 17-15. Marquette's outside hitter, Aubrey Hamilton and middle blocker, Carsen Murray would combine for nine kills in the third set out of a total of 25 on the afternoon. For UConn, Emma Werkmeister and Allie Garland would combine for six out of their 14 total kills in the game. Caylee Parker also would finish with nine kills and 10 digs. Marquette would take the third set 25-19.Â
