No. 3 Huskies to Open BIG EAST Play vs. Providence

STORRS, Conn. – The third-ranked UConn women's basketball team (5-0) begins BIG EAST Conference play against Providence (6-2) on Friday in Gampel Pavilion at 7 p.m. The game will air on SNY and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (97-9 ESPN).
The Huskies will host a Title IX Celebration vs. the Friars. The team will also host a Toy Drive with Toys for Tots and UConn SAAC. Toys will be collected at each entrance to Gampel Pavilion from 5:15-7:15 p.m.
UConn is coming off its third win over a top-10 opponent as the Huskies beat No. 7 Iowa, 86-79, to win the Phil Knight Legacy last weekend. Sophomore Azzi Fudd led the Huskies with 24 points while junior Aaliyah Edwards had 20 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Nika Mühl dished out 13 assists vs. the Hawkeyes.
Edwards was named the Phil Knight Legacy tournament MVP while Fudd and graduate student Lou Lopez Sénéchal were named to the all-tournament team.
UConn is 43-21 all-time vs. Providence, including 42-10 under Geno Auriemma. The Huskies have won the last 31 meetings against the Friars.
Providence went 3-0 in the Friar Thanksgiving Classic, picking up wins over Hartford, Weber State and Bryant. This season, Janai Crooms leads the Friars with 16.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Head coach Jim Crowley is in his seventh season at Providence.
