STORRS, Conn. – UConn head football coach Jim Mora has announced the addition of Antonio Wilcox to his coaching staff. Wilcox will join the Huskies as the running backs coach, pending the successful completion of the university employee onboarding process.
Wilcox joins the UConn staff after spending the 2021 and 2022 season at Furman University.
"Antonio is an outstanding coach who has a tremendous track record of developing student-athletes into excellent college players," Mora said. "He is a tireless recruiter who understands firsthand the challenges that student-athletes face, and I know our young men will benefit greatly from his mentorship."
Wilcox's presence was felt immediately at Furman as he was key in the development of Dominic Roberto, who had 104 yards on 28 carries in the 2020 season which turned into 715 yards on 96 carries, and 1,194 yards in 2022, while under Wilcox.
Prior to his tenure at Furman, Wilcox was on the staff at North Greenville University, working as a graduate assistant with the program's running backs coach helping the group double their rushing production from 2018-2019 before being promoted to wide receivers coach.
"I am incredibly excited to Join the UConn family," said Wilcox. I would like to thank Coach Mora for the opportunity to be a part of his staff. I also would like to thank Coach Hendrix for giving me a chance to serve Furman University. I'm looking forward to getting started and building relationships within the Storrs Community.
Wilcox began his coaching career at Furman in 2018, serving as a quality control offensive assistant playing a key role in Furman's run to the SoCon championship that season.
A native of Fitzgerald, Ga., he lettered all four years at Furman and paced Furman in rushing as a sophomore, junior, and senior, finishing with career totals of 1,777 yards and 21 touchdowns. In 2017, he rushed for 814 yards and 14 touchdowns in helping key Furman's drive to the NCAA FCS playoffs. Included in that campaign was a career high 21-carry, 202-yard rushing performance in a 28-6 road triumph over Western Carolina.
Wilcox earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Furman in the spring of 2018 and secured his MBA from North Greenville in 2020.
