TUSCON, Ariz. - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper announced its annual Fabulous 50 Division I Preseason Poll and All-American selections this week and the Huskies came in at No. 31 in the poll with redshirt junior David Smith being named a second team All-American.Â
The Huskies are coming off a historic campaign that saw UConn post a program record 50 wins and come one win away from the College World Series.Â
UConn advanced to its second Super Regional in program history after winning the College Park Regional. The Huskies advanced to Palo Alto and defeated the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal in Game 1 of the series but the next two games to close out their historic run.
The Huskies have advanced to four-straight NCAA Regionals and 8 in the last 12 years.
Smith is coming off a Second Team All-BIG EAST season after playing in all 66 games and making 65 starts. The second baseman/utility man hit .307 with 78 hits, 11 doubles and led the team with five triples and hit nine long balls.Â
Smith was named the team's lone team captain for the 2023 season.Â
