UConn-DePaul Postgame Quotes

UConn Head Coach Geno Auriemma
On Dorka Juhász's performance:
"Well, Dorka's kind of been beat up since September, she hasn't been 100 percent since September. Sometimes it's worse than others, she hardly ever practices. I think after Wednesday, I just think she had a better match up tonight too. She had somebody she needed to guard in the low post, she didn't need to chase anyone around the perimeter. I just think it was a better matchup all the way around and she just looked better, felt better, played a lot better."
On Aaliyah Edwards' performance:
"I told our post players they'd all be averaging 20 if they made half of their lay-ups, the uncontested ones especially. The hard is getting those, and they usually come if you work really hard on the offensive rebounding. In the Villanova game we had two offensive rebounds, I think one by Christyn and one by Nika, that's embarrassing. I think they took that to heart, and we worked really hard on the rebound battle tonight against a team that was not obviously not easy to rebound against. Aaliyah can impact the game every night like she did tonight, she just has to choose to. Hopefully she can give us something like tonight, every night, we're going to get it again on Sunday."
DePaul Head Coach Doug Bruno
Opening statement:
"UConn is a better team than they played Wednesday night against Villanova. We got that tonight. Our goal tonight was to make history, and we didn't do a good job of that. The identity of their team right now while they're wounded is their defense. I think they are a great defensive basketball team. I think they really clamped it on us tonight.
"On the offensive side of the ball, we have been able to get quick shots, without having to work efficiently and that's not going to happen against a team like UConn. You have to really understand, you have to give the credit to the defense, but you have to look at yourself. We were in a chaotic state, and we are a group of people that shouldn't be in a chaotic state. They are good, we dedicate ourselves to stopping [Azzi] Fudd, and they showed us that the other players are really good basketball players."
On freshman Aneesah Morrow:
"She is a joy to have on the team. She is a great young woman and I can't say enough about her. Just to come on the college basketball scene like she has and to do what she's been doing. I really value what she's doing, we should value what she's doing and she's only a freshman. She's a work in progress. There is so much to learn and she's learning every game. She runs, she rebounds, she finishes, she plays with a great motor, and she's going to be a go to down low, but she's a work in progress."
Graduate Student Dorka Juhász
On the recent stretch:
"It's been a rollercoaster. I've missed a couple games, I feel like I kind of got out of rhythm again, just started all over again. You could see that the past two games I wasn't really finding my rhythm. Today was different. I was able to practice more with the team, getting more comfortable with them again. So, I felt way more comfortable and confident coming out today.
"That Oregon loss, that was personal. And even Villanova last game, I took that very personal, I took that responsibility, rebounding, and just how I came out of that. I'm happy that this game was different and we had a great team win."
On what she did well vs. DePaul:
"I felt like I just was all over the floor, whenever I could get a mismatch, give an assist, or just be on defense and help my team. I was definitely more aggressive, and I think that helps me a lot. Just getting some stops, getting some rebounds, boxing out, making sure I their post players can't get it. It was a great team win. I was feeding off of everybody else's success. So many people contributed to this thing. It was probably one of our best team wins, it felt really good."
Sophomore Forward Aaliyah Edwards
On bouncing back after losses:
"I think after a loss you can learn a lot from a team aspect, and individually. We can do better the next game. Coming out of the Villanova loss, coach was talking about how our immature approach to the game, not pertaining just to the loss. But I think this game really came and showed how mature we can bounce back on defense. The steals, the stops, not letting them get second shots, that really helped bring the momentum to our offensive game."
