Huskies Open Spring Season Hosting Fairfield

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's tennis team will get their spring season started on Wednesday afternoon playing host to the Fairfield Stags at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester.
UConn senior Julieanne Bou (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) is coming off a strong fall tournament season where she put up a 10-5 singles record and played to a 7-6 doubles record with sophomore teammate Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany). The two advanced to the quarterfinals of the main doubles draw at the ITA Regional Championship and last spring, played to an 11-1 record together on the way to earning the program's first-ever ITA national ranking (87th). She was named to the All-BIG EAST second team last season.
Bou wrapped up her fall by representing Puerto Rico at the Billie Jean King Cup international competition in October.
Hoppe ended the fall on a three-match winning streak and had six singles wins on her record. Freshman Isabel Petri Bere (Lund, Sweden) also ended the fall winning three-straight after five singles wins.
She played doubles with sophomore Aleksandra Karamyshev (Ashton, Md.) and the duo went a team-best 8-5. Karamyshev had a great fall playing singles, posting nine wins in 15 matches. Junior Denise Lai (Setauket, N.Y.) won five singles matches during the fall
The Huskies will host six matches at the indoor facility in Manchester before returning to their on-campus outdoor courts in late March. The Huskies will also take on Rutgers (Feb. 13), Stony Brook (Feb. 18), Seton Hall (Feb. 27), Sacred Heart (Mar. 2) and Quinnipiac (Mar. 8) at Magic Lincer.
In Storrs, UConn will host Army, St. John's, Boston College and UMass this spring. The Huskies will play Drexel at Army, and head to LIU (Feb. 25), Florida Southern (Mar. 15) and Bethune Cookman (Mar. 16) on spring break, and at Boston University (Apr. 2), Providence (Apr. 6), Georgetown (Apr. 9), Villanova (Apr. 10) and Rhode Island (Apr. 15).
This year's BIG EAST Tournament is slated for April 21 through 24 in Cayce, SC.
