ORLANDO, Fla. - Following a week of training between Miami and Orlando, the UConn women's rowing team opened its spring competition slate with a dual meet against UCF and Jacksonville Friday morning at Lake Pickett.
The Huskies landed in Miami last Thursday and squared off against Barry in a scrimmage on Saturday. Following two more days of training at Miami Beach, UConn departed for Orlando, where they remained through the end of the week.
"I'm proud of each boats effort today as they took what they worked on this week and applied it in their races," stated head coach Jennifer Sanford. "This is a unique year and this group of women have trained hard together and stayed committed to the process. We have individual wins on a daily basis, and just because we didn't win in the races today doesn't mean we aren't winning daily as a team."
The V8Â started off the day (7:11.34) and the 2V8 (7:23.29) followed suit. The V4 (8:29.52) and 3V8 (8:55.67) also competed and closed out the day.
"I'm looking forward to a few weeks of training on Coventry Lake before our next competition," closed Sanford. "Our goal will be to get faster every day until the next competition presents itself and see how our improvements with more time in the water pay off."
UConn wiill resume its season April 9 at the NYRA Invitational.
