Chapel Hill, NC – UConn takes down Penn State, splits doubleheader on Saturday.

In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader the Huskies fell to the Oregon Ducks 9-1.

Marybeth Olson got the start for the Huskies going 1.2 innings letting up seven runs on five hits.

The Ducks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Oregon extended their lead in the second on a grand slam giving them a 7-0 lead.

Meghan O'Neil came in relief for Olson in the second inning. She pitched 2.1 innings letting up two runs.

The Huskies got a run back in the fourth. Oregon, however, would respond with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to end the game in five innings.

In the second game of the day, UConn took down the Penn State Nittany Lions 7-1.

The game was a pitcher's duel through four innings. Elise Sokolsky pitched a gem for the Huskies. She went the distance only allowing one run with four strikeouts.

The Huskies bats would come alive in the fifth scoring six runs. Briana Marcelino would open the scoring with a loud bases loaded single off the wall scoring Emily Piergustavo. Reese Guevarra would deliver the big blow for the Huskies on a bases clearing double making it 4-0 Huskies. Jana Sanden would get in on the hit party with a two-run homer her second on the year, giving the Huskies a 6-0 lead.

Penn State would answer in the sixth with a run trimming the Huskies lead to 6-1. The Huskies would come right back in the bottom half of the sixth with a run on a sac fly by Erika Coreth.

The Huskies will be back in action tomorrow for the final day of the Carolina Classic. They are set to face Oregon at 10:00am and North Carolina at 12:30pm.
