Softball shuts out Providence 8-0 in series finale

Storrs, CT – UConn dominates Providence in the series finale to win their sixth straight series. Move to 15-3 in the BIG EAST and 28-14 on the year.

Elise Sokolsky started in the series finale for the Huskies. She was dominant from start to finish in this one, notching the complete game shutout only giving up two hits and striking out five. Sokolsky now improves to 16-4 on the season and 10-1 in conference play.

Jana Sanden kick started the Huskies offense in the first inning with a single to center scoring Lexi Hastings making it 1-0.

UConn added on to the lead in the second inning scoring two runs. Erika Coreth reached on an error to score Rosie Garcia. Sami Barnett also came around to score on an error giving the Huskies a 3-0 lead.

The Huskies went on to add insurance in the fifth inning scoring three runs extending the lead to 6-0. Briana Marcelino scored on an infield single. Rosie Garcia delivered a big two run single to put the game out of reach for the Friars.

UConn ended the game in the sixth on an error, scoring two Huskies to seal the win.

Head Coach Laura Valentino had this to say about her team's performance on the weekend, "Our team's resilience showed today after a tough loss on Saturday. They were committed to the plan and played for each other. I'm looking forward to seeing them continue to get better in our last ten games of the regular season."

The Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Merrimack for a midweek matchup.
