Softball shuts out Merrimack 6-0

Andover, MA – UConn beats Merrimack 6-0. Pitching staff led the way for the Huskies as they had a no hitter through six innings.
Marybeth Olson got the start for the Huskies. She went four scoreless innings, striking out nine. Meghan O'Neil came in relief for Olson in the fifth inning. She finished out the shutout striking out two.
The Huskies got on the board in the second inning. Erika Coreth worked a walk with the bases loaded to make it 1-0. Briana Marcelino hit a double to bring in two more making it 3-0.
UConn added to the lead in the fifth inning with Reese Guevarra stealing second and coming around to score on a throwing error making it 4-0 Huskies.
The Huskies added two insurance runs in the seventh. Rosie Garcia hit a two run single to seal the 6-0 win.
UConn will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Seton Hall for a three game series.
