STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's soccer team announced its tri-captains for the 2022 season. Seniors Jessica Mazo and Emma Zaccagnini and junior Lucy Cappadona will lead the Huskies in the upcoming season.
"Mazo, Emma, and Lucy have established themselves not only as impactful players on our field, but as impactful people within our team and program as well," head coach Margaret Rodriguez said. "They each have high standards of themselves and those around them and carry themselves with respect, class and a sense of purpose. Their leadership is well-balanced, and it is evident that they all have the respect of their teammates and our coaching staff. They earned this captain title and established themselves as positives leaders in our program. We know we are in good hands moving forward with this trio."
The captains have helped UConn women's soccer grow over the last three seasons. The Huskies have increased their win total in each season in Storrs, including a second-place BIG EAST finish in spring 2021 and two straight BIG EAST Tournament appearances.
Mazo, Zaccagnini and Cappadona have led the Huskies on and off the field in their time in Storrs.  Through their strong work ethic, competitive drive, and team first mentality they've helped unify our team and will look to keep UConn's momentum moving forward next fall.
A midfielder from Bridgeport, Mazo has been a leader for the Huskies on the field since arriving in Storrs. She is a two-time All-BIG EAST selection. Mazo started in 13 of 14 games she appeared in for the Huskies last season. She has made 43 appearances at UConn.
A midfielder from Watertown, Zaccagnini started all 18 games for the Huskies in fall 2021. She played 1604 minutes last season, the second most on the team. Zaccagnini has appeared in 46 games for the Huskies in her three seasons. She was also a captain as a sophomore.
A midfielder from Marlborough, Mass., Cappadona started all 18 matches in fall 2021. She ranked third on the team with eight points and tied for the team lead with four assists. Cappadona has started all 30 of her career collegiate games.
The Huskies will wrap up their spring schedule against Sacred Heart this Saturday at 7 p.m. in Morrone Stadium.
