STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's basketball program has added guard Nahiem Alleyne, who will transfer to UConn from Virginia Tech, where he has spent the last three years.
Alleyne, a 6-4, 195-pound lefthander from Buford, Ga., becomes the second player to transfer to UConn during this off-season, joining Tristen Newton, who is coming from East Carolina. Like Newton, Alleyne will enter UConn as a senior in 2022-23, and will have the option of a second season of eligibility due to the NCAA granting an extra year for those players who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21.
Alleyne, who made an official visit to UConn earlier this week, started all 36 games last season for Virginia Tech, which won the ACC Tournament with an 82-67 victory over Duke, after defeating North Carolina, 72-59, in the ACC semifinals. Alleyne averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, shot .380 overall, .373 from three-point range, and .852 from the foul line in 31.1 minutes per game. His 62 made three-pointers ranked second on the team.
Alleyne scored in double figures in 17 games in 2021-22, including a season-high 22 against Notre Dame. His 21-point effort against Memphis led to his selection to the 2021 NIT Season Tip-Off All-Tournament Team.
In his three-season career at Virginia Tech, Alleyne appeared in 90 games, with 84 starts, scored 871 points, grabbed 234 rebounds, handed out 136 assists, shot .386 overall. .387 from three, and .807 from the foul line. He was a three-time selection to the ACC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team.
Alleyne was a two-year letterwinner at Mountain View High School (Lawrenceville, Ga.), where he averaged 17.2 points as a senior and was named All-State and All-Region. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
