UConn Goes After Second Straight BIG EAST Title

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The UConn men's golf team will be after its second straight BIG EAST title as it begins play in the 2022 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship on Monday on the Mountain View Course at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.
The Huskies won the 2021 crown by six strokes over Marquette and received the automatic bid to the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional.
As the fourth seed this year, UConn will defend its title primarily against No. 1 seeded Marquette, No. 2 seeded Seton Hall and No. 3 seeded Creighton. Following the Huskies are No. 5 Georgetown, No. 6 St. John's, No. 7 Villanova, No. 8 Xavier, No. 9 Butler, and No. 10 DePaul.
The BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship is a 54-hole tournament with competition starting each day at 8:20 a.m. ET. Live stats will be available on GolfStat.com. The team winner will earn the BIG EAST's automatic berth to the 2022 NCAA Championship. Should the individual champion not be a member of the winning team, he will also earn an automatic spot in the NCAA Championship.
UConn, which had nine Top Five finishes in 11 events this year, is led by sophomore Caleb Manuel (Topsham, Me.), who finished fourth in last year's BIG EAST tourney. Manuel is averaging 71.37 strokes per round and has seven Top 10 finishes this year, including medalist honors at the UConn Invitational.
Also in the UConn lineup, senior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) is averaging 72.5 and has three Top 10s, while sophomore Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) is averaging 72.7 and won the Bash at the Beach. Rounding our the Huskies' team is freshman Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.), averaging 74.5 and sophomore Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.), averaging 75.1.
Grad student Hunter Eichhorn is Marquette's leader and the highest ranked BIG EAST player by GolfStat. Last year, Eichhorn was the BIG EAST Championship co-medalist and he was the individual winner in 2018 as a freshman.
