The Huskies head into their final weekend of competition before they host the BIG EAST Championship in two weeks. UConn are coming off appearances at the Virginia Challenge and Navy Spring Meet last weekend and held on to the No. 1 spot in the USTFCCCA Northeast Poll this week. The Huskies saw three school records fall last weekend.
Senior Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.) finished 10th in the 5,000 meters invite race at the Virginia Challenge, clocking in at 16:00.35, setting a new PR and breaking the UConn school record previously set by Emily Durgin in 2017 (16:05.44). She is currently ranked 43rd in the NCAA with that performance. Nahom is also 22nd nationally in the steeplechase (10:05.10).
Also on the track, freshman Gabby Davis (Franklin Park, NJ) took first and set a new school record in the 400 meter hurdles at the Navy meet. Her time of 59.47 seconds, a new PR by over two seconds, broke the previous mark of 59.89 seconds set by Kristina Cherrington in 2019. Davis is now 65th in the national rankings with that performance.
In the pole vault, junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) continues to put up record breaking performances this spring. For the second-straight weekend, Chee set a new school record and also established a new facility record as well at Navy. Chee cleared a height of 4.23 meters to take first place. She ranks 20th in the national rankings.
Junior Patricia Mroczkowski (Berlin, Conn.) returns to action this weekend after taking last weekend off. Mroczkowski heads in ranked at 12th in the high jump with her best height of 1.83 meters.
Following the Penn Relays the Huskies will have a week off before hosting the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex on campus on May 13 and 14.
