BOSTON, Mass. - The UConn women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on the road at Boston University on Saturday. The Huskies record is even at 7-7 on the season.
"Another tough loss to a very strong BU team," stated Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "We played much better than some of the scores, but need to do a better job of focusing during crunch time in the close games. Our top player JulieAnne Bou, was still out with a back injury. Aleksandra and Leonie had nice matches, with Leonie stepping up for a great win at number one singles."
BU claimed the opening doubles point with wins on all three courts and took five of the six singles matches on the day.
The lone UConn point came at No. 1 where sophomore Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany) won for the second-straight match playing the top spot as UConn's Julieanne Bou (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) missed the match with injury. Hoppe won a three-set battle with BU's Victoria Carlsten. After losing the opening set 6-2, Hoppe fought her way to a 7-5 win in the second and a 10-8 tie-breaker win in the third set. It was Hoppe's 17th win on the season.
Classmate Aleksandra Karamyshev (Ashton, Md.) lost a tough three-set match-up at No. 2 with Erica Di Battista. Karamyshev lost the first set 6-1 but answered with a 6-3 win in the second before falling short in the tie-breaker third, 10-8.
The Huskies are back at home in Storrs on Tuesday afternoon hosting Boston College at 2:30 pm.
