Huskies Wrap Busy Day at LSU and SCSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - The UConn women's track and field team wrapped up a day of competing at a pair of events with plenty of PR's going up on the board. The Huskies had a 24-athlete contingent at the Joe May Invitational at LSU and sent another set of athletes down to New Haven to compete at the Wilton Wright Invitational at Southern Connecticut State.
The Huskies had plenty of great individual performances at LSU led by junior Patricia Mroczkowksi (Berlin, Conn.) who had another career-best performance in the high jump to finish second. At the SCSU meet, the Huskies finished second in the field of 17 teams with a limited roster in attendence.
At Joe May Invitational
On track…
- Freshman Gabby Davis (Franklin Park, N.J.) took sixth in the 400-meter hurdles and posted a new PR with a time of 1:02.63. Freshman Alyssa Elliott (Bangor, Maine) also set a new PR and was ninth in 1:04.75.
- Freshman Brianna Davis (Bay Shore, N.Y.) took 13th in the 200 meters and recorded a new PR with a time of 24.38 seconds.Â
- Junior Emily Lavarnway (Ovid, N.Y.) posted a new PR time of 14.41 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing 11th overall. Freshman Katelyn Reid (Middletown, N.J.) also had a new PR at 14.92 seconds.
- Sophomore Elise O'Leary (Milton, Mass.) finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.13.Â
- Freshman Raquel Rosa (Waterbury, Conn.) was 10th n the 400 meters at 56.14 seconds.
In the field…
- Junior Patricia Mroczkowski (Berlin, Conn.) continued her impressive outdoor season on Saturday, posting a new PR while finishing seconds. Mroczkowski cleared the height of 1.83 meters on her second attempt. Senior Kelly Ward (Oxford, Conn.) was sixth with a height of 1.70 meter, her best height this outdoor season.
- For the second-straight week, freshman Natalia Surdej (Lancaster, N.Y.) posted a new PR in the hammer, recording a throw of 57.77 meters to finish fifth overall. Senior teammate Mikyala Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) was sixth in 56.41 meters.
- Junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) was tied for third in the pole vault with a height of 4.01 meters.Â
- In the long jump, Lavarnway was third with a leap of 5.78 meters. Sophomore Jasmine Barrow (Athens, Ga.) was sixth in 5.62 meters. Sophomore Jamie Kobus (Princeton Junction, N.J.) took eighth and had a new PR at 5.52 meters.
- Barrow came back in the triple jump and took third overall with a leap of 12.17 meters. Kobus set a new PR in the triple jump as well, going sixth in 11.60 meters.
- Freshman Emily Alty (Asburn, Ontario) took ninth in the discus and had a new PR with a distance of 46.66 meters.
At Wilton Wright Invitational
On the track…
- Freshman Ta'Jae Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) won the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 25.05 seconds, a new PR.
- In the 400 meters, Jackson was second with a time of 58.08 seconds and classmate Jalah Cooper (Windsor, Conn.) was fifth in 59.85 seconds.
- Freshman Amanda Ruffin (Ellicott City, Md.) was third in the 100 meter dash in 12.55 seconds.
- Freshman A'liyah Thomas (Linden, N.J.) took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.89 seconds and classmate Emma Phelps (Westborough, Mass.) was fifth in 16.39 seconds.Â
In the field…
- Sophomore Jackie Simington (Shelton, Conn.) was second in the javelin with a throw of 37.21 meters.
- Sophomore Susie Okoli (New Haven, Conn.) took second place in the shot put at 12.64 meters.
- Freshman A'liyah Thomas (Linden, N.J.) finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.44 meters.
- Sophomore Emma Phelps (Westborough, Mass.) set a new PR in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.60 meters to finish fourth.
- Freshman Mallory Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) took second in the pole vault with a height of 3.35 meters
