Huskies bounce back to stay alive in Big East Tournament

Rosemont, IL – UConn survives elimination from the BIG EAST Tournament, beat Butler 4-1 behind a stellar pitching performance from Elise Sokolsky.
Elise Sokolsky got the start in game one for the Huskies. She went 3.2 innings striking out five.
DePaul jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. UConn kept it a one run ball game with a great play by Briana Marcelino and Erika Coreth getting the runner out at home on a ground ball.
Meghan O'Neil came in relief for Sokolsky in the fourth inning. She finished out the game for the Huskies only giving up two hits and struck out six.
DePaul went on to add to their lead in the fourth scoring four runs to make it 5-0. O'Neil calmed things down by striking out five in the fifth and sixth innings.
UConn got their first hit and run of the game in the sixth inning off the bat of Reese Guevarra. She delivered a double to bring home Aziah James making it 5-1.
DePaul went on to score one in the seventh to make it 6-1. Sami Barnett hit a solo shot in the bottom half of the inning, but it wasn't enough to beat the Blue Demons.
In the elimination game, the Huskies bats came alive scoring four runs on seven hits.
Marybeth Olson started in the circle for the Huskies. She went 1.2 innings only giving up two hits.
Butler got on the board first in the second inning taking a 1-0 lead.
Sokolsky came in relief for Olson in the second inning pitching a gem for the Huskies. She went 5.1 scoreless innings striking out four.
UConn took the lead in the fifth inning scoring two runs making it 2-1. Aziah James got it started with a one out triple to spark the Huskies offense. Guevarra ripped an infield single to bring home James, tying the game at one. Lexi Hastings delivered a big two out triple to score Guevarra.
Barnett extended the Huskies lead in the fifth inning with a groundout to the shortstop, scoring pinch runner Giuliana Abruscato. UConn added an insurance run in the seventh on a bloop single by Jana Sanden to make it 4-1.
UConn will play the winner of the Villanova / DePaul game tomorrow at 3:00pm EST.
