UConn To Host Oklahoma State In Big 12-BIG EAST Battle

NEW YORK โ The UConn men's basketball team will play host to Oklahoma State in the 2022 Big 12-BIG EAST Battle, according to the pairings announced by the leagues on Thursday.
The Huskies and the Cowboys are scheduled to meet on Thursday, Dec. 1,ย with the game time and venue, either Gampel Pavilion or the XL Center, still to be determined. Television broadcast arrangements for the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle will be determined by the national television rights holder of the home team, which is Fox Sports for the BIG EAST and ESPN for the Big 12.
It is the second year that UConn has been involved in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle, after bowing at West Virginia, 56-53, last season. Oklahoma State is 1-2 in the three previous games of the Battle, including a loss at home to Xavier, 77-71, last year.ย
Oklahoma State, under Coach Mike Boynton, posted a 15-15 record in 2021-22, 8-10 in the Big 12, but were ineligible for postseason play. The Cowboys return top two scorers Avery Anderson and Bryce Thompson as well as leading rebounder Moussa Cisse, and have added John-Michael Wright, a transfer from High Point University, who was the leading scorer in the Big South Conference, and All-Sun Belt Conference First Team guard Caleb Asberry.
UConn, coming off a 23-10 season, finished 13-6 in the BIG EAST, and made its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Huskies will be led by rising junior Adama Sanogo, a First Team All-BIG EAST pick,ย junior guard Andre Jackson and sophomore guard Jordan Hawkins. The Huskies have added transfers Tristen Newton, Nahiem Alleyne, and Hassan Diarra to the 2022-23 roster.
UConn and Oklahoma State have met twice before on the hardcourt, with the Cowboys winning both games on neutral courts -- 80-64 in the Bayou Classic in Lafayette, La., on Dec. 18, 1970, and 98-90 in the Maui Invitational in Hawaii on Nov. 21, 2016.
