FH Announces Captains for 2022 Season

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's field hockey team and head coach Paul Caddy have announced their leadership group for the 2022 season. Headlining the leadership group will be rising senior Claire Jandewerth who will serve as the team's captain.
The Huskies will look to rely on the experience of the captains heading into the 2022 season. The Huskies will have representatives from each grade in the leadership group. Two sophomores Morgan Kaufmann and Aiyi Young have been named the future leaders, while senior Abril Martinez-Arraya and redshirt senior Cheyenne Sprecher have been named vice captains and rounding out the group is senior captain Claire Jandewerth.
Aiyi Young and Morgan Kaufmann are both coming off an impressive freshman season playing in and starting all 22 games for the Huskies. In those 22 games, Young logged 1,153 total minutes of playing time, while pitching in one assist, while Kaufman logged 1,096 total minutes scoring one goal while adding eight assists. Both athletes will look to take on larger roles with the Huskies in their second year.
Seniors Abril Martinez-Arraya and Cheyenne Sprecher will look to be the voices and leaders of the UConn back line heading into the 2022 season. Sprecher played in and started all 22 games for the Huskies, logging 1,358:21 minutes allowing 34 total goals while making 117 saves. Sprecher posted 1.50 goals against average and a .775 save percentage and finished 9-11 on the season. Arraya will look to be a voice of the UConn back line and continue their defensive success. As a team, UConn allowed only 1.59 goals per game and a total of 35 goals.
Headlining and rounding out the leadership group is rising senior captain Claire Jandewerth. Claire is coming off a very impressive junior season, playing and starting in all 22 games for the Huskies logging 1,158 minutes. In 22 games, Jandewerth scored 11 goals while adding four assists. Jandewerth will look to continue to grow and build off the success of an impressive junior season.
