UConn's Nelson Wins Hornblower Memorial Tourney

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – UConn senior Jared Nelson followed up a first round, 6-under 63 on Friday with a 1-under 68 in the second round on Saturday to win the 58th Annual Hornblower Memorial Golf Tournament, played at the Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth, Mass.
Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) was on fire during the first round, with six birdies – including four straight on holes 12-15 – and no bogeys as he recorded the lowest round of the tournament. On Saturday in the second round, Nelson countered two bogeys with three birdies and his two-round total of 7-under, 63-68=131 won the tournament by four strokes.
UConn was also represented in the top 10 of the tournament by sophomore Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.), who shot a 2-over, 70-70=140 to finish in a two-way tie for 10th place.
The Hornblower is one of the most prestigious, longest-running summer tournaments in New England. The tournament began with 154 golfers, which was cut to the low 60 plus ties after the first round.
Nelson was UConn's second-leading scorer during the 2021-22 season, averaging 72.61 per round, with three Top 10 and five Top 20 finishes. He posted 13 rounds of par-or-better and shot a season-low round of 67 on three different occasions.
