LOS ANGELES - UConn right-handed pitcher Austin Peterson was selected by the Cleveland Guardians in the ninth round of the 2022 MLB Draft on Monday afternoon.
Peterson is the second Husky chosen in this year's draft after Reggie Crawford was picked in the first round of the draft by the San Francisco Giants on Sunday night.
The Chesterton, Ind. native becomes the 16th UConn player under head coach Jim Penders to be drafted in the top 10 rounds of the draft.Â
Peterson finishes his UConn career with an 18-4 record and 229 career strikeouts in two seasons with the Huskies.Â
The All-American set the single-season record with 147 strikeouts in 2022 and became the first tandem (with Pat Gallagher) in UConn history to each record double-digit wins in a single-season.
The last day of the draft resumes tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET with rounds 11-20.Â
