STORRS, Conn. – Head coach Laura Valentino announced Wednesday Molly Rathbun will be joining the UConn softball staff as an assistant coach. Rathbun joins the Huskies after spending the past three years as the head coach for the Trinity softball program. She led the program last year to an 19-14 record and a NESCAC semifinals appearance.
"I am so excited to have Molly as our pitching coach at UConn," said Valentino. "After meeting Molly, I knew her competitive drive, passion for the game, and emphasis on helping others grow on and off the field matched our culture. I know she will be a tremendous asset to our pitching staff by helping them develop in preparation to win a championship this season. I feel very fortunate to have someone who has competed in the World Series, who takes pride in being from Connecticut, and who truly loves to teach the game."
Prior to her time with Trinity, Rathbun was the head coach at Muhlenberg College for three seasons, leading the program to their highest win total in five years in 2019 with a 19-21 record.
Rathbun played for Eastern Connecticut State University and was a four-time All-American pitcher. She led her team to three Little East Conference championships, and four NCAA Tournament appearances.
"I am beyond grateful and excited for the opportunity to contribute to the UConn Softball team and staff," said Rathbun. "It was apparent through the entire process the care and commitment to this program and the individuals in it. I can't wait to be a part of it, along with Husky Nation!"
