Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge Final ResultsÂ
Storrs, Conn. -Â The University of Connecticut track & field teams took on the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge on Friday and Saturday with proud results to look back on.Â
Both the men and women continue to put up strong performances with personal bests and top marks. In total, there were 23 top five results. In the team score, the men finished second with 95 points behind UCLA with 101. The women finished third with 76.5 points behind UCLA with 187 points and South Carolina with 108.Â
Highlighting the men's side were Terrel Williams and Travis Snyder. Both athletes would continue to put up top finishes and personal records. Snyder would dominate in the pole vault putting up a 5.47m jump which would break his previously broken school record from the 2022 season in UConn program history. He would place first in the event. Williams would get the first-place finish with a 7.74 time who is also hovering around the all-time school record in program history. Also, helping the men on day two of the Dr. Sander Invitational meet was James Maniscalco. Maniscalco finished first in the 1 Mile run with a personal record of 4:05.57. That time ranks him No. 8 all-time at UConn.Â
For the women, Caroline Webb set a personal record in the 5,000m with a time of 17:07.56 and placing first in the event. Also, A'liyah Thomas would set two personal records at the meet this weekend. Thomas went on to take second place in the long jump with a 6.07m result and fifth place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.62 seconds. To add, Jasmine Barrow would improve her No. 5 All-time mark at UConn in the triple jump coming in third with a distance of 12.53m.Â
"Our team was just really well prepared," Track & Field Director Beth Alford-Sullivan said. "We competed extremely well. The highlight takeaways were Terrel running a 7.74 to hold off a very talented and successful hurdler from South Carolina for the win and of course Travis with a huge personal best and school record set in the pole vault. Also, for the women A'liyah Thomas had a big breakthrough in the 60-meter hurdles setting a big personal best."Â
