Storrs, CT – The University of Connecticut women's swimming and diving team defeated both Central Connecticut State University and the University of New Hampshire in a home dual meet this weekend with final scores of 188-111 and 186-114 respectively. The team is now undefeated in dual meets this season, a program first.
The more intensive dual meet format will help prepare the team for competition later this month. Mia Galat said, "Our Coach gave us a really good talk about how we need our mindset right for back-to-back sessions since that's what conference will be like."
The talk seemed to work as strong performances from Mia and the team resulted in dominant wins across several events. UNH had previously bested the Huskies in Durham, NH last season by a score of 158-142. The Huskies responded with strength. Ella Epes, who placed high in Butterfly events and 400 Free relay said, "We knew they were going to be tough opponents and had a very strong season but so have we. We are hungrier than ever for a conference title right now. We knew that staying strong together through this meet as we've done for every other meet would result in the strongest results possible and that's what we did."
On her first place 100y Butterfly finish, Epes said, "I was really just trying to stay strong. We were coming off a meet last night that was a huge success but at the end of the day it's about who is the hungriest." On preparing for next week's meet and the Big East championship she said, "We definitely have things we need to work on, it's all about the minor details at the end of the day. That's what we'll continue to work on these last few weeks leading to conference."
Up Next – The Huskies approach conference and their last home meet with winning momentum. They host Providence College in their final home meet of the season February 4th.
