SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The UConn women's soccer team (9-3-5, 6-1-3 BIG EAST) closed the regular season with a 2-0 victory at Seton Hall to move the Huskies win streak to a season-high three games.
UConn scored first in the 36th minute after Laci Lewis was taken down in the box and awarded the Huskies with a penalty kick. Fifth-year senior Emma Zaccagnini seized the moment and scored from the spot for her first goal of the season.
Another fifth-year senior for UConn doubled the lead in the 72nd minute as Jessica Mazo smashed a long distance shot off the cross bar and ricocheted just over the end line to make it 2-0 Huskies. It is a new career-high for the Bridgeport, Conn native with her third goal of the season.
The UConn defense played like they have all season, limiting the Pirates opportunities on offense and posting its 11th shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Kailtlyn Mahoney secured her 10th shutout of the year with a pair of saves on Thursday.
The Huskies out shot the Pirates 16-5 in the regular season finale including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal.
Next up, the No. 3 seeded Huskies host a BIG EAST Quarterfinal matchup against the No. 6 seeded Butler Bulldogs on Sunday, October 29 at 1 p.m.
