Huskies Fall to Wildcats in OT

DURHAM, NH. – The UConn Huskies fell in overtime to the New Hampshire Wildcats saturday afternoon. Senior Harrison Rees and Justin Pearson were the goal scorers for the Huskies.
UConn opened the scoring late in the first period as Ryan Tverberg made an extra effort play while being hit to find Harrison Rees skating across the middle. Rees was left alone and able to fire a shot past Tyler Muszelik for the first goal of the game. The UConn defense and freshman Arsenii Sergeev were strong in the period holding the Wildcats scoreless.
The second period began with the Wildcats instantly jumping on the attack. The New Hampshire forwards continued to pressure the UConn defense. The Wildcats eventually found the equalizing goal midway through the second period. Freshman Arsenii Sergeev made an additional 13 saves in the period to prevent New Hampshire from taking the lead.
The momentum gained from their second period goal carried over into the third period as the Wildcats took the lead two minutes into the start of the period. UConn didn't wait long to counter as Justin Pearson battled for a puck and broke free and was alone on a breakaway for the tying goal. With the game tied, both teams had opportunities to pull ahead, but timely saves by both netminders kept the game tied. Freshman Arsenii Sergeev's diving stick save with 15 seconds remaining in regulation pushed the game to a winner take all sudden death overtime.
In overtime, UConn held possession however following a missed shot, New Hampshire took control of the puck and scored the game winning goal on a two on one breakaway.
