UConn Set to Face Stony Brook and Drexel at Home

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team is set to face Stony Brook and Drexel as they host at their home indoor courts on Friday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 19.
The first game will be played at Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester, Conn. and the second game will be held at Magic Lincer Tennis Academy in Windsor, Conn.
Entering the matchup, UConn dropped its fourth match of the 2023 season against Army, falling 7-0 on Friday, Feb. 10. The Huskies now stand at 2-2 overall.
Last time out, despite the match score, UConn made it a close match with some tight battles in doubles and singles play. In first and third doubles, UConn kept a close fight. First doubles pair, Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou fought till the very end but fell short at 6-4. Then, third doubles pair, Doga Selen Takunyaci and Caroline Cook pushed the set to seven games, but were clipped 7-5, respectively.
In singles play, Isabel Petri Bere and Cameron Didion forced a third set in their matches. At fourth singles, Petri Bere won the first set, 6-1, then dropped the second set 6-2, and eventually after a hard-fought battle, Petri Bere fell short in the third set at 6-4. Didion played hard at six singles, winning the first set 6-1, but dropped the next set at 6-3 and then fell short in the super tiebreak 10-7.
Scouting the Seawolves
Heading into the matchup, Stony Brook is 2-1 overall this season. The Seawolves took a 4-3 win against Fairfield last Friday. Last match, Carmen Victoria Villalba Rubio won at second singles in a three-set battle winning 6-2,3-6, 6-3.
Scouting the Dragons
Heading into the matchup, Drexel stands at 4-3 overall on the season. The Dragons last time out took a 5-2 victory against Lehigh last Saturday. Last match, Lorie Lamongo won both doubles and singles. At first doubles, Lamongo and Renata Lombera won 6-2, then at first singles Lamongo went on to take a 6-0, 6-4 win. Lamongo holds a 13-3 singles record in the 2022-23 season.
First serve on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST and first serve on Sunday is scheduled for 12 p.m. EST.
