No. 6 UConn, No. 14 Villanova to Face Off Saturday

STORRS, Conn. – The sixth-ranked UConn women's basketball team (23-4, 15-1 BIG EAST) faces a tough BIG EAST battle as the Huskies travel to No. 14 Villanova ()23-4, 14-2) Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The game will air on FOX and the UConn Sports Network (97-9 ESPN).
UConn narrowly beat Creighton, 62-60, in front of a sold out crowd at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday. Sophomore Caroline Ducharme played her first game since Dec. 31 after missing 13 games in concussion protocol. Ducharme scored all 10 of her points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning free throws. UConn trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter but outscored the Bluejays 23-12 in the final frame. Graduate student Lou Lopez Sénéchal led the game with 17 points.
UConn is 40-18 all-time vs. Villanova. The teams last faced off on Jan. 29 in Hartford, a 63-58 win for the Huskies. UConn outscored Villanova 20-13 in the fourth quarter to take the win. Redshirt junior Aubrey Girffin led UConn with 19 points in the game.
Villanova has won its last five games since losing to UConn on Jan. 29. This season, Maddy Siegrist leads the nation with 29.4 points per game. Siegrist set the BIG EAST scoring record with 50 points vs. Seton Hall last week. She also leads Villanova with 9.4 rebounds per game. Head coach Denise Dillon is in her third season at Villanova.
The Huskies have just two home games remaining in the regular season. UConn hosts St. John's next Tuesday in the team's last game of the season in the XL Center. The Huskies host Xavier on Monday, Feb. 27, for Senior Night as UConn honors graduate students Dorka Juhász and Lou Lopez Sénéchal.
