Huskies Get Convincing Win at Home vs UAlbany

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn Women's Lacrosse team came up with a big, convincing win against the Great Danes of the University at Albany on Wednesday afternoon at home at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies were coming off a tough loss against Cornell on Saturday.
The University at Albany opened the game with back-to-back goals by senior midfielder, Sarah Falk at 11:11 and 10:09. Falk's first goal was assisted by junior, Bryar Hogg. The UConn attack would then go on a scoring spree started by grad student, Lia LaPrise, at 8:32. Susan Lafountain and Rayea Davis would find the back of the net for three more consecutive goals for the Huskies. Lafountain scored at 7:17 and Davis had back-to-back-to-back goals, notching herself a hat trick, at 6:55, 5:26, and 3:55 to put UConn on top over UAlbany, 5-2. Junior, Katie Pascale, cut the lead to two for UAlbany at 2:53. LaPrise followed that up, completing a hat trick in the first quarter of the game, with back-to-back goals at 2:21 and 1:43, assisted by Sophie Sorenson.
The second quarter opened with Kate Shaffer and Shonly Wallace scoring back and forth for UConn and UAlbany, respectively. Shaffer notched goals at 11:57 and 8:39, while Wallace put two in the back of the net at 10:09 and 8:39. UAlbany's Ava Poupard scored again for the Great Danes before UConn called a timeout, making the score UConn 9 – UAlbany 6. The Huskies would go on to score to more times to end the half, with goals from Lafountain and Morgan Carter.
The Great Danes came out fighting in the second half, with goals from Hogg at 11:58, Allie Maloney at 9:15, and Grace McCauley at 7:25. Carter answered with her second goal of the day to extend UConn's lead, 12-9. Shaffer quickly followed that up with a goal of her own, giving herself a hat trick on the day. That made three Husky hat tricks on the day in the third quarter. Davis scored to finish the quarter off on a diving shot, giving her four goals on the day.
The final quarter started off with a quick UAlbany goal from Maloney. Morgan Carter put one in the back of the net for the Huskies, making that her third goal of the game. The Great Danes answered quickly with two goals of their own to make the score UConn 15 – UAlbany 12, keeping them within three of the lead. The UConn attack would go on another scoring spree as Davis came up with unassisted goal for the Huskies, her fifth on the day. Shaffer notched another goal, while Kaitlyn Tartaglione put up her first point of the day. Lafountain went back-to-back to end the game, making the final score UConn 20 – UAlbany 12.
Grad student and veteran goalkeeper, Landyn White had 13 saves on the day, keeping UConn in the game. The Huskies controlled 17 draws to UAlbany's 19, with senior midfielder, Madelyn George, taking an overwhelming nine. UConn's defense showed up big time causing five turnovers with 19 groundballs. Fouls helped the Huskies today, with the Great Danes having 19 in the first half alone, ending the game with 36. UConn outshot UAlbany 46-29 in their win over the Great Danes. All-in-all six Huskies put points up on the board today.
The Huskies will head to Hempstead, NY to take on the Hofstra Pride on Tuesday, March 28th at 3pm. The game will be played at James M. Shuart Stadium and will be livestreamed on FloSports.
