Track & Field Set for Penn Relays

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut track & field teams prepare for the renowned Penn Relays, the oldest and biggest track & field event since 1895 hosted by University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field. Competition is set to begin on Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29 in Philadelphia, Pa. Â
A smaller squad will also compete at Yale for the Springtime Invitational on Sunday, April 30.Â
Last time out, there were 11 personal records that placed in the top five for the men and women. Marc Morrison and Mekhi Stone made a strong presence on the UConn outdoor all-time performance list as Morrison tied his fourth all-time mark in the long jump going 7.64 meters at the Virginia Challenge and Stone reached the 10th all-time mark in the 400m at the Navy Invitational running a personal record time at 47.42. Â
Also, the women made a huge splash on the UConn outdoor performance list with four athletes breaking top-ten in UConn program history; Chloe Thomas, Natalia Surdej, Rachel Mason, and Jasmine Barrow. Â
Thomas finished with a fifth all-time mark in the 1500m running a 4:21.39 time. Then, in the field events, Surdej in the hammer throw broke her personal best with a fourth all-time mark at UConn at 59.78 meters and Mason in the pole vault broke her personal best jumping 3.67 meters. Also, Barrow set a seventh all-time mark at UConn in the long jump with a jump of 6.13m. Â
UConn takes on the Penn Relays for the first day on Thursday, April 27 at 5 p.m. EST in Philadelphia, Pa. The smaller group at the Yale Invitational is set to compete at 10 a.m. EST on Sunday, April 30 in New Haven, Conn.Â
