Softball falls in Series Opener at DePaul

CHICAGO, Ill. – The UConn softball team (31-12) dropped the series opener at DePaul, 5-2, snapping the Huskies six game winning streak.
Hope Jenkins started in game one of the series for the Huskies, going only 1.1 innings with three strikeouts. Jenkins moves to 13-3 in the circle in her freshman season.
All of DePaul's runs came in the second inning as they jumped out in front, scoring five runs on three hits and knocking Jenkins out of the game.
Meghan O'Neil came in relief for Jenkins in the second inning. She would finish out the game in the circle for the Huskies, keeping DePaul's offense scoreless, adding seven strikeouts.
The Huskies offense struggled to get key hits as they stranded a runner in scoring position in the first four innings. UConn left a total of ten runners on base.
UConn avoided the shutout, scoring two runs in the seventh inning, but the deficit was too large for the Huskies to come back.
Game two of the series will be tomorrow at 4:00pm on FS2.
