STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (33-13) opens the BIG EAST Tournament against the five seed St. John's Red Storm (23-27) on Thursday at noon.
UConn comes into the tournament as the overall number one seed after winning the regular season title for the second consecutive season, finishing with a 19-5 conference record. UConn has been led this season by a pair of outfielders in Aziah James and Lexi Hastings. The two lead the Huskies in hits, on-base percentage, and stolen bases. Hastings was a unanimous first team all-conference selection with James being named to the second team. Freshman catcher, Grace Jenkins has been a key piece to the Huskies lineup all season long, leading the Huskies in runs batted in (41) and doubles (17). Jenkins was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, earning second team all-conference honors.

The staff has been led by junior Payton Kinney this season, as she leads the team in ERA (2.83), holding opponents to an impressive .167 batting average. Kinney was named first team all-conference for the first time in her career.
