No. 9 HookC Heads Back to BIG EAST Championship Game

MASON, Ohio - The No. 9 UConn baseball team (42-14) eliminated the Georgetown, 10-1, in Friday's elimination game to advance to its third-straight BIG EAST Championship and fifth-straight Championship game overall
LHP Andrew Sears (3-1) was dominant on the mound with a career-high eight innings of work that featured five hits, one run, zero walks and eight strikeouts.Â
The UConn offense got back to its usual ways by erupting for five runs in the third inning. After David Smith singled and Paul Tammaro walked, the duo pulled off a double steal to place runners at second and third.Â
BIG EAST Player of the Year followed with a RBI single to center to even the score at 1-1. A few pitches later, cleanup man Ben Huber lifted a three-run opposite field home run, his team-leading 15th of the year, to make it 4-1 Huskies.Â
Luke Broadhurst added a run on a fly ball to left field that was dropped and allowed Broadhurst to get to second.Â
In the fourth, Freeberger and Huber added on with an RBI single for the UConn third baseman and a two-run base hit for Huber. The five runs batted in for the UConn first baseman was a season-high.Â
Broadhurst and Bryan Padilla added RBI base hits in the eighth to put the game away, 10-1.Â
UConn advances to a BIG EAST Championship Saturday and will need to beat the Xavier Musketeers twice to take the crown for the third-straight season. Game one begins at 2 p.m. ET on FloSports. If the Huskies win, they will play a winner-take-all game immeditately after completion of game one.Â
