Nelson Named To PING All-Northeast Region Team

NORMAN, Okla. – UConn grad student Jared Nelson has been named to the 2023 Division I PING All-Northeast Region Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The GCAA names All-Region honorees across six regions of the country.
Nelson, who was named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Year earlier this month, was the BIG EAST's leading scorer and set a UConn single-season record at 70.88 strokes per round.
Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) was the only golfer in the BIG EAST to have an average under par (-0.67) this year. His 63 in the first round of the Gimmler Invitational was the lowest round of any player in the conference this season and equaled a UConn record.
Nelson won individual medalist honors in two tournaments this season – the Gimmler Invitational and the Golfweek/AGT Invitational – and led UConn in scoring in eight of 11 events.
He had six Top 10 and eight Top 20 finishes this season and shot 22 rounds of par-or-better, equaling another UConn single-season record, and had 13 sub-70 rounds. He was named BIG EAST Men's Golf Player of the Week three times.
