Ray Dennehy Joins UConn Golf Team

STORRS, Conn. – Ray Dennehy, a junior who has spent the past two years at Lafayette College, has transferred to UConn and will join the Huskies men's golf team with immediate eligibility.
Dennehy, a native of Princeton, Mass., has been a solid player for Lafayette, participating in 21 events, with seven Top 10 and eight Top 20 finishes.
"I admire Coach (Dave) Pezzino's passion for the game and for his team," Dennehy said. "The indoor practice facilities create a great working environment for your game. The team atmosphere is very welcoming and I was excited to call the University of Connecticut home."
As a sophomore last season, Dennehy played in 12 events for Lafayette, with five Top 10, six Top 20 and nine Top 30 finishes. He averaged an outstanding 72.5 strokes per round for 29 rounds, with 13 rounds of par-or-better and six sub-70 rounds. His best finish was a tie for seventh at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate after shooting a 1-over par 214, while his best tourney score was a 5-under 208 at the Phoenix Invitational.
Before college, Dennehy played four varsity seasons at Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury, Mass. He was a two-time team captain and a three-time selection to the Telegram and Gazette Golf All-Stars.
Dennehy, who plays out of Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, Mass., also participated in skiing and lacrosse at Saint John's. He was a two-time captain of the ski team and was a three-time selection to the Telegram and Gazette Skiing All-Stars.
The UConn golf team will open its 2023-24 season on Sept. 8, when it travels to the Tennessee National Golf Club in Loudon, Tenn., to compete in The Knoxville Collegiate tournament.
