STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (3-2-2) closed out the non-conference portion of its season with a 1-1 draw against Buffalo (3-1-3) in front of a season-high 1805 fans on Saturday night at Morrone Stadium.Â
UConn scored first in the 28th minute on a corner kick opportunity for Abbey Jones. The junior crossed a perfect ball into the box that was headed home by sophomore Chioma Okafor. For Okafor, it was her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The score remained the same until a Huskies miscue led to the game-tying goal from Leah Wengender in the 60th minute.Â
After Buffalo carried momentum after tying the game, the Huskies were able to swing momentum back into their favor towards the final stages of the second half.Â
A free kick opportunity from Joyce Ryder led to a quality chance by Kelly Monaco but her attempt sailed over goal.Â
Saturday saw the collegiate debut for freshman Lexi Taylor and season debut for Izzy Gomez.Â
The Huskies settled for the tie against the 2022 NCAA Tournament participants and head into BIG EAST Conference play next weekend in Storrs.Â
UConn faces Creighton on Thursday, September 21 at 7 p.m. and follow it up with a Sunday, September 24 matchup against St. John'sÂ
