Huskies Set to Open BIG EAST Play at Home Against Marquette and DePaul

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team prepares for the first BIG EAST Conference home stand of the 2023 season at the UConn Volleyball Center this weekend against Marquette Saturday and DePaul Sunday.Â
Last time out, UConn faced two conference opponents to open BIG EAST play on the road this season against St. John's and Seton Hall on Sept. 22 and Sept. 23. The Huskies (5-9 OVR, 0-2 Conf.) were faced with strong competition in both matches and fell in three sets to both teams, respectively. Last weekend, the Huskies were led by Cera Powell and Emma Werkmeister as they combined for 32 kills. Leading the way for the Huskies this season is Werkmeister with 145 kills, 16 service aces, 17 assists, 84 digs, and 12 blocks.Â

Entering the matchup, the Golden Eagles are 6-7 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST action. Last time out, Marquette swept Villanova and Georgetown in three sets on Sept. 22 and Sept. 23. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles this season is outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton as Hamilton posts 179 kills, 12 assists, 13 service aces, 27 blocks, and 91 digs.Â
Scouting DePaulÂ
Entering the matchup, the Blue Demons are 8-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Last time out, DePaul split the weekend falling to Georgetown in three sets on Sept. 22 and then bouncing back to take the win over Villanova in five sets on Sept. 23. Leading the way for the Blue Demons are Jill Pressly and Audrey Klemp as they combine for 338 kills on the season along with a combined 159 digs and 46 blocks.Â
The match on Saturday, Sept. 30, against Marquette and the match on Sunday, Oct. 1 against DePaul begin at 1 p.m. EST. The matches can be streamed live on FloSports. Â
