Huskies Shutout by #17 Wildcats

STORRS, Conn. - Â The UConn men's hockey team dropped their first game of a two-game series against no.17 New Hampshire, Friday evening at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. The Huskies entered the third period trailing 1-0 before New Hampshire scored four unanswered goals to seal the victory.
The Huskies and Wildcats battled from first puck drop, with both teams skating hard and generating scoring chances. New Hampshire opened the scoring as a pass from Ryan Conmy deflected off Andrew Lucas and into the back of the net. The Huskies were unable to respond as Jakob Hellsten of New Hampshire saved all nine attempts by the Huskies.
After a scoreless second period, UConn entered the final frame trailing by one goal. The Huskies began the third period with a strong rush, generating multiple scoring chances but were unable to find the back of the net. Three minutes into the period, New Hampshire was able to extend their lead with back-to-back goals, to give them the three-goal lead. One minute later, the Wildcats struck again to increase their lead to four. With time running down in the period, a penalty on the Huskies gave the Wildcats a man advantage and while on the power play, scored once more to seal the 5-0 victory.
UConn senior Ethan Haider made the start in net and finished with 35 saves.
The Huskies fall to 5-8-2 in conference action and will close out the home and home series Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 4pm and can be watched on NESN and ESPN+.
