WTEN Falls to Xavier

MANCHESTER, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell to Xavier at home 7-0 Saturday night.
The Huskies are now 4-2 overall and 0-1 in BIG EAST play. UConn kept it close in doubles but fell just short as the first doubles team with juniors Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou fell 6-4. Xavier would then go on to take the doubles point and take all six singles points.
"This was a tough match today against the top team in the Big East," said head coach Glenn Marshall. "They are tough at every position with their consistency and aggressive play. We played some good doubles to start but came up just a little short. Xavier had some very smart doubles teams that forced us out of some of our strengths. In the singles matches we saw how a top team was relentless with their approach to every single point. This put a lot of pressure for us in the longer rallies and that was a big difference today. Although we aren't happy with the result, it gives us a chance to see some areas we need to focus on for the future."
Also making it close was freshman Caroline Hinshaw as Hinshaw battled at fourth singles taking the first set 6-2, but then Xavier's Abigail Siminski rallied back to take the second set 6-4 and then won the ten-point tiebreaker 10-8.

The Huskies look ahead to another home match at Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester, Conn., on Friday, Feb. 16 against Stony Brook. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
