CLEMSON, S.C. – UConn softball (4-10) fell to the no. 9 ranked Clemson Tigers, 3-2 in extra innings on Saturday evening.
Hallie Siems earned her seventh start of the season for the Huskies in the circle. She went 5.0 innings, giving up only one run to a potent Tigers lineup, adding three strikeouts.
The game was a pitcher's duel through the first three innings with both teams combining for only two hits.
Clemson broke the deadlock in the fourth inning scoring the game's first run, giving the Tiger a 1-0 lead.
Jana Sanden put the Huskies in front 2-1 in the sixth inning, with a two run double to right center, scoring Savannah Ring and Lexi Hastings. Sanden now has 15 runs batted in this season.
Meghan O'Neil came on in relief for Siems in the sixth inning making her tenth appearance of the year. She finished out the game in the circle pitching 2.2 high leverage innings, giving up one earned run with two strikeouts.
Clemson tied the game at two in the bottom of the seventh inning. O'Neil did well to limit the damage and push the game to extra innings, as she stranded the go ahead run in scoring position.
Clemson went on to score the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, on a single to right field, handing UConn their tenth loss of the season.
