No. 3 UConn Hosts Seton Hall For Senior Day at Gampel

STORRS – The No. 3 UConn men's basketball team (25-3, 15-2 BIG EAST) plays its final home game of the season on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Seton Hall (18-10, 11-6 BIG EAST) at Gampel Pavilion. Tip-off is set for noon and will air on CBS with Ian Eagle, Bill Raftery and Tracy Wolfson on the call.
Sunday at Gampel Pavilion is Senior Day. Prior to the contest the Huskies will honor their four-member senior class of Andrew Hurley, Cam Spencer, Hassan Diarra and Tristen Newton. It will also be a White Out at Gampel, and fans and students are encouraged to wear white.
Connecticut has won all seven of its Gampel games this season and has won 26 of its last 27 games in Storrs. Overall, UConn is 15-0 in home games this year.
UConn is looking to avenge its last meeting against Seton Hall, a 75-60 setback in Newark to open BIG EAST play on Dec. 20. Overall in the history of the series Connecticut has dominated to a 48-23 tune, but since the Huskies returned to the BIG EAST for the 2020-21 campaign the series is split 4-4. Dan Hurley is 5-4 all-time as a head coach against his alma mater.
Connecticut is coming off its second bye and was last in action on Saturday, Feb. 24, taking down Villanova at Gampel by a score of 78-54. Spencer led the Huskies with 25 points in the win, while Newton recorded his fourth career triple-double in a 10-point, 16-rebound, 10-assist masterpiece. The Huskies earned a season sweep of VU for the second-straight season.
This season the Huskies have ascended to the top of the BIG EAST standings and national polls with a balanced attack, ranking first in the conference in both scoring offense and scoring defense. Newton and Spencer are tied for the team-high with 15.2 points per game. Newton also tops the squad in rebounds (7.3 rpg) and assists (5.9 apg) and has garnered a slew of national accolades this season, including spots on the watch lists for the Naismith, Wooden and Oscar Robertson awards. Spencer has been one of the most efficient offensive players in the country, currently ranking third in the nation with a 44.6 percent mark from 3-point range.
Also in double-figures for Connecticut this season is Alex Karaban at 13.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while Donovan Clingan chips in 12.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and shoots a league-best 64.6 percent from the field. Stephon Castle is the fifth Husky in double-figures with 10.9 points per game and is the nine-time BIG EAST Freshman of the week.
The Pirates visit Connecticut with an 18-10 record on the year and an 11-6 mark in league play, currently sitting in fourth place in the conference standings. Kadary Richmond leads the Pirates as a do-it-all guard with 16.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Al-Amir Dawes and Dre Davis also score in double-figures with 14.5 and 14.2 points per game, respectively. Jaden Bediako leads Seton Hall's efforts on the glass with 7.5 caroms per game.
Following the tilt with Seton Hall, the Huskies hit the road for their final two contests of the regular season. First up is a trip to Milwaukee for a top-five showdown with No. 5 Marquette on March 6.
